Dhudmaras in Bastar Selected for UNWTO Tourism Upgrade

In November 2024, Chhattisgarh’s Dhudmaras village has been selected for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Best Tourism Village Upgrade programme.

Dhudmaras, located in Bastar district within the Kanger Valley National Park, was selected as one of 20 villages worldwide for the upgrade programme, focusing on sustainable tourism.
The village was chosen from over 260 global applicants for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and strong potential as a rural tourism destination.
Dhudmaras, surrounded by dense forests and the Kanger River, is known for its biodiversity, traditional lifestyle, and local cuisine, making it an ideal spot for eco-tourism.
The UNWTO initiative will support the village in enhancing tourism infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage, and improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
The Chhattisgarh government is working to improve transportation and promote local handicrafts globally to support tourism growth in the area.
The village residents offer various tourism services, including homestays, trekking, bird watching, and guided tours, providing visitors with a firsthand experience of traditional tribal life and local culture.
