Dhudmaras in Bastar Selected for UNWTO Tourism Upgrade

In November 2024, Chhattisgarh’s Dhudmaras village has been selected for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Best Tourism Village Upgrade programme.
- Dhudmaras, located in Bastar district within the Kanger Valley National Park, was selected as one of 20 villages worldwide for the upgrade programme, focusing on sustainable tourism.
- The village was chosen from over 260 global applicants for its rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and strong potential as a rural tourism destination.
- Dhudmaras, surrounded by dense forests and the Kanger River, is known for its biodiversity, traditional lifestyle, and local cuisine, making it an ideal spot for eco-tourism.
- The UNWTO initiative will support the village in enhancing tourism infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage, and improving the overall quality of life for its residents.
- The Chhattisgarh government is working to improve transportation and promote local handicrafts globally to support tourism growth in the area.
- The village residents offer various tourism services, including homestays, trekking, bird watching, and guided tours, providing visitors with a firsthand experience of traditional tribal life and local culture.
