​‘Garud Shakti’ Military Exercise

On 1st November, 2024, the 9th edition of ‘Garud Shakti’ underscores India and Indonesia’s commitment to strengthened defense cooperation and enhanced interoperability between their Special Forces.

  • A 25-member Indian Army Special Forces contingent has traveled to Cijantung, Jakarta, to participate in ‘Garud Shakti 24,’ a joint military exercise with the Indonesian Special Forces, Kopassus, from November 1 to 12.
  • The Ministry of Defence stated that the primary aim of this exercise is to develop mutual understanding, cooperation, and familiarity with each side’s operational protocols and tactical maneuvers.
  • The training sessions will involve planning and executing specialized operations, focusing on jungle terrain warfare, strikes on simulated terrorist camps, and validation exercises incorporating both basic and advanced skills.
  • Participants will also share insights on weaponry, equipment, tactical innovations, techniques, and procedures to enhance interoperability and address evolving regional security threats.
  • As part of cultural exchange, the exercise includes activities allowing troops to gain insights into each other's lifestyle and cultural heritage, fostering stronger military ties.
