Civil Registration System App
- 01 Nov 2024
On 29th October 2024, Union Home Minister introduced the Civil Registration System (CRS) mobile app to simplify and digitalize birth and death registrations nationwide.
- The CRS app enables citizens to register births and deaths digitally, allowing access at any time and in any state-specific language, making the process user-friendly and accessible.
- Shah emphasized that the app will reduce registration time significantly, enhancing efficiency in processing and verification.
- As mandated by The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2023, all births and deaths from 1st October 2023, are required to be registered online via the Centre’s portal, dc.crsorgi.gov.in.
- The digital birth certificate issued through the CRS will serve as a single, authoritative document for essential services, including school admissions, government job applications, and marriage registrations.
- The centralized CRS database will also help update critical public databases like the National Population Register (NPR), ration cards, property records, and electoral rolls.
- Data from the NPR, initially collected in 2010 and last updated in 2015, will be expanded with the new registration inputs, contributing to the development of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
