Centre Launches Portal for Paddy Procurement Issues

  • 29 Oct 2024

On 28th October 2024, in response to ongoing delays and concerns over paddy procurement in Punjab, the Union government has introduced a new mobile platform to streamline grievance redressal for rice millers.

  • The Consumer Affairs Ministry launched the FCI Grievance Redressal System (FCI GRS) mobile application, allowing rice millers to submit and monitor their complaints with the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
  • This platform aims to improve transparency and accountability by enabling rice millers to track the status of their grievances and receive timely responses directly on their mobile devices.
  • The Centre has committed to ensuring efficient paddy and Custom Milled Rice (CMR) procurement, setting a target of 185 lakh tonnes for Punjab's current kharif season.
  • The Samyukt Kisan Morcha attributed the delay to FCI’s inability to clear last year's stock, with 130 lakh tonnes of rice from the previous season still clogging storage facilities in Punjab’s warehouses and mills.
