MALABAR 2024 Maritime Exercise Launches in Vizag

On 9th October 2024, the 28th edition of the multi-national maritime exercise MALABAR 2024 commenced on October 9, 2024, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, featuring participation from the navies of India, the United States, Japan, and Australia.

  • This year’s MALABAR exercise will take place from October 9 to 18 and includes live weapon firings, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drills, and various joint maneuvers to enhance naval cooperation among participating nations.
  • The opening ceremony was held aboard the Indian Naval Ship Satpura and hosted by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, with senior military officials from all participating nations in attendance.
  • The exercise consists of two distinct phases, both in the harbor and at sea, designed to strengthen interoperability and operational readiness among the navies involved.
  • Naval platforms from the participating countries will include guided missile destroyers, frigates, submarines, and various maritime aircraft, highlighting the extensive maritime capabilities of each nation.
