Air Marshal A.P. Singh Appointed Next Chief of Air Staff

Air Marshal A.P. Singh, currently Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, has been appointed as the next Chief of the Air Staff, taking over the role on September 30, 2024, upon the retirement of Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari.

  • Air Marshal Singh will assume the rank of Air Chief Marshal on September 30, following the retirement of the current Chief, V.R. Chaudhari, after his superannuation.
  • An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, Air Marshal Singh was commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the IAF in 1984.
  • With over 5,000 hours of flying experience on both fixed and rotary wing aircraft, he is a qualified flying instructor and an experimental test pilot.
  • He has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base, showcasing his leadership in critical operational roles.
  • As a test pilot, Singh led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow and played a key role in the testing of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.
  • He also served as Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, overseeing the Tejas flight testing program.
