On 20th August, 2024, the ICC relocated the Women’s T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to the UAE due to concerns over safety and travel advisories, with the event now set to be held in Dubai and Sharjah.

  • The tournament, scheduled from October 3 to 20, will feature India and will now take place in Dubai and Sharjah, while Bangladesh retains hosting rights to ensure it receives its revenue share.
  • ICC Chief Executive expressed regret over not holding the event in Bangladesh but cited travel advisories from participating countries as the primary reason for the relocation.
  • An interim government has been established with Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus as Chief Adviser, while former PM Sheikh Hasina has fled to India, and Bangladesh Cricket Board’s president Najmul Hassan Papon has also left the country.
  • The decision to shift the venue followed concerns expressed by Australia’s T20 captain Alyssa Healy, who voiced doubts about playing in Bangladesh under the current conditions.
  • The Emirates Cricket Board has agreed to host the event, with logistical advantages cited for the UAE, including the close proximity of Dubai and Sharjah, which helps keep costs manageable.
