Maria Branyas, recognized as the world's oldest person, passed away at 117 years old in her Spanish nursing home, as confirmed by her official X account and Guinness World Records.

  • Born in San Francisco in 1907 and later moving to Spain, Branyas lived through significant historical events including the 1918 flu pandemic, both World Wars, and Spain’s civil war.
  • Branyas spent her later years in Catalonia, marrying doctor Joan Moret in 1931 and raising three children, with whom she had 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
  • She outlived her husband, who died in 1976, and her son August, who died in a tractor accident at age 86.
