India to Fund Launch of Nepali Satellite

On 10th August, 2024, India committed to funding the launch of Munal, a satellite developed by high school students in Nepal, through a grant from New Space India Limited (NSIL), following a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST).

  • Satellite Details: Munal, a 1U CubeSat designed by nine Nepali students, measures 113.5 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm and weighs approximately 1.09 kg.

  • Background: Foreign Secretary visit follows the recent political changes in Nepal, where Prime Minister Oli, leading a new coalition government, succeeded Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The satellite's launch is expected to utilize NSIL’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
