Finance Secretary T.V. Somanathan will succeed Rajiv Gauba as the next Cabinet Secretary when Gauba retires on 30th August 2024.
- T.V. Somanathan, currently serving as Finance Secretary, will take over as Cabinet Secretary, succeeding Rajiv Gauba who is retiring this month.
- Somanathan has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat prior to assuming his new role.
- Rajiv Gauba is the longest-serving Cabinet Secretary in recent times, completing a five-year term by the end of August.
- Somanathan, a 1987-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, has held significant positions in both Tamil Nadu government and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
- He has served as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has a distinguished academic background with a Ph.D. in Economics.
- His career includes a notable stint with the World Bank where he served as Financial Economist and Sector Manager before becoming a Director.
- In addition to his native Tamil, Somanathan is fluent in English, Hindi, French, and Hausa, showcasing his diverse linguistic skills.
