T.V. Somanathan

Finance Secretary T.V. Somanathan will succeed Rajiv Gauba as the next Cabinet Secretary when Gauba retires on 30th August 2024.

T.V. Somanathan, currently serving as Finance Secretary, will take over as Cabinet Secretary, succeeding Rajiv Gauba who is retiring this month.
Somanathan has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat prior to assuming his new role.
Rajiv Gauba is the longest-serving Cabinet Secretary in recent times, completing a five-year term by the end of August.
Somanathan, a 1987-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, has held significant positions in both Tamil Nadu government and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
He has served as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has a distinguished academic background with a Ph.D. in Economics.
His career includes a notable stint with the World Bank where he served as Financial Economist and Sector Manager before becoming a Director.
In addition to his native Tamil, Somanathan is fluent in English, Hindi, French, and Hausa, showcasing his diverse linguistic skills.
