International Centre for Audit of Local Governance

On July 18th, 2024, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India Girish Chandra Murmu inaugurated the International Centre for Audit of Local Governance (iCAL), at Rajkot in Gujarat.

Key Points

The centre will serve as a platform for information sharing and play a key role in strengthening local self-institutions.
iCAL is a pioneering initiative by SAI India.
It will enhance the audit capacity and independence of Local Government auditors, promoting improved financial performance assessment, service delivery, and data reporting.
iCAL envisions a collaborative platform uniting policymakers, administrators, and auditors linked with Local Governments across India and globally.
iCAL's primary objectives are to develop and enhance standards for Local Government Audits, strengthen data collection and reporting, and empower auditors, executives, and elected representatives through comprehensive training programs and leadership development initiatives.
