The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues alerts for a severe cyclonic storm, named Cyclone Remal, expected to affect the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

A well-marked low-pressure area in the Central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into Cyclone Remal by Saturday, crossing the Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts by May 26 midnight.
Thunderstorms with lightning and rain are forecasted for Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and other districts of West Bengal on Friday, followed by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Heavy rain is anticipated in East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas, with fishermen advised not to venture into the Bay of Bengal.
