The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues alerts for a severe cyclonic storm, named Cyclone Remal, expected to affect the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh.

  • A well-marked low-pressure area in the Central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into Cyclone Remal by Saturday, crossing the Bangladesh-West Bengal coasts by May 26 midnight.
  • Thunderstorms with lightning and rain are forecasted for Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and other districts of West Bengal on Friday, followed by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
  • Heavy rain is anticipated in East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas, with fishermen advised not to venture into the Bay of Bengal.
