Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani

On 3rd May 2024, Nepal announced the issuance of a new Rs 100 currency note featuring a map including Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani, disputed territories with India, drawing criticism from India over what it terms as "artificial enlargement."

The move to update the currency notes follows the decision to redesign the banknote taken in cabinet meetings held on April 25 and May 2.
In June 2020, Nepal updated its political map, incorporating Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura, triggering a sharp reaction from India, which maintains these areas belong to it.
The territorial dispute further strains India-Nepal relations, with India expressing concerns over Nepal's unilateral actions.
Nepal shares a border of over 1,850 km with five Indian states, including Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
