China-ASEAN Non-Aggression Pact
On 13th July, 2023, China and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) agreed to try to conclude a long-awaited non-aggression pact within three years.
- The pact aims to prevent territorial disputes in the South China Sea from escalating into major armed conflicts.

- Finalizing a Code of Conduct: China and ASEAN agreed to complete negotiations on a code of conduct in the South China Sea before fall 2026.
- Resolving Decades of Tensions: The agreement follows prolonged territorial disputes between China and ASEAN member states, including Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
