Microplastics
- According to a new study, tiny particles of plastic, known as microplastics, have been found in the Arctic region and the Alps, carried by the wind. The study called for an urgent assessment of the risk of inhalation of the microplastics.
- Microplastics are “particles less than 5 mm in size.”
- Sometimes they are deliberately made to be that small—such as the microbeads once commonly used in exfoliating beauty products before they were banned in July 2018—or they are the result of larger pieces of plastic breaking down, everything from plastic-lined paper cups to plastic car parts.
- In other words, “microplastic” is a catch-all ....
