Central Vigilance Commission

  • Recently, a committee headed by Prime Minister selected the new Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC).
  • CVC is the apex vigilance institution for preventing corruption in India.
  • It was established in 1964 by an executive resolution of the central Government on the recommendation of Santhanam Committee on Prevention of Corruption (1962-64). However, Central Vigilance Act 2003 granted it a statutory status in 2003.
  • CVC is a multimember body consisting of a Central Vigilance Commissioner and not more than two Vigilance Commissioners.
