Pacific Sea Level Rise Surpassing Global Average: WMO
On 27th August 2024, a new report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) highlighted that sea level rise in the Pacific Ocean is exceeding the global average, posing an existential threat to low-lying island nations.

- Sea Level Rise: The Pacific region is experiencing a sea level rise of 4.52 mm per year around and east of the Maritime Continent, surpassing the global average of 3.4 mm. This has resulted in a surge in coastal flooding, with islands like Guam and the Cook Islands reporting dramatic increases.
