Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025

On 27th March 2025, the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, was passed in Lok Sabha to regulate immigration, entry, and stay of foreigners in India.

Legislative Background

It repeals four existing Acts, modernizing immigration laws.

  • The Foreigners Act, 1946
  • The Registration of Foreigners Act, 1939
  • The Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920
  • The Immigration (Carriers’ Liability) Act, 2000

Key Provisions

  • Mandatory Travel Documents: Foreigners entering or departing from India must have a valid visa along with a passport or other valid travel documents.
