Vedic Mathematics and Methods of Multiplication in Gaṇitasārasaṅgraha
- Towards the end of the Vedic period, sūtra literature emerged, specifically connected to Vedāṅgas, which are six in total: Shiksha, Vyakaran, Chhandas, Nirukta, Kalp, and Jyotish. Sūtras belong to the Kalpa Vedāṅga.
- Mathematics was developed during this period, with references to geometry in the Śulbasūtra, which are practical manuals for measurements and algorithms necessary for constructing Vedis and altars.
- The Śulbasūtras describe advanced geometric knowledge and are considered the oldest Indian mathematical works. The term "śulba" means rope or cord, used for measuring the shape of the altar.
