Wetland City Accreditation

  • Recently, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) submitted nominations for Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) for Indore, Bhopal, and Udaipur under Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
  • These are the first three Indian cities nominated for WCA based on proposals from State Wetlands Authorities and Municipal Corporations.
  • Wetlands around these cities provide flood regulation, livelihood opportunities, and cultural values.
  • Indore: Cleanest city, Ramsar site Sirpur Lake developed as Bird Sanctuary, over 200 wetland mitras engaged in bird conservation.
  • Bhopal: Proposed conservation zones, Ramsar site Bhoj Wetland, dedicated Lake Conservation Cell, over 300 wetland mitras involved.
