Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara

  • Also known as the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara and Medaram Jatara, it is a festival to honour the Hindu Tribal goddesses, celebrated in the state of Telangana, India.
  • It commemorates the fight of a mother and daughter, Sammakka and Saralamma, with the reigning rulers against an unjust law.
  • The mega four-day jatara, scheduled to begin on February 16, 2021, in Medaram, is perhaps the only tribal fair devoted to pay tribute to tribal warriors who made supreme sacrifices defending the rights of aboriginal tribal people.
  • It takes place once in two years.
