Exploring Rare Weaves and Textiles of Gujarat
- 'Bhujodi', a small village situated in the dry region of Kutch, has become synonymous with traditional weaving techniques and gorgeous decorative textiles.
- The biggest feature of Bhujodi weaving is that it uses locally available materials, such as sheep's wool and camel hair.
- Bhujodi shawls have been prevalent in the Vankar communities of Gujarat for about 500 years. These shawls are made on plain weave with deep natural colours and unique designs.
- The history of Ashavali sarees of Ahmedabad goes back to the Mughal period. These sarees are distinguished by their special weaving techniques – kadva (brocade), jaal (open work) and buta (motifwork).
