​Raorchestes asakgrensis

  • A new frog species, Raorchestes asakgrensis, has been discovered by a team from SACON (The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History) during a two-year study in Meghalaya.
  • The species was named after the Eman Asakgre Community Reserve in the Garo Hills to honor the local community's support in the research.
  • The research team conducted nocturnal surveys across 13 sites in the Garo and Khasi Hills between October 2020 and January 2022 to locate and study bush frogs, which are most active at night.
