NISAR Satellite to Monitor Earth’s Surface Changes
ISRO and NASA are teaming up to launch the NISAR satellite in early 2025, aiming to track Earth's surface changes, including movements in glaciers, ice sheets, and vegetation.
Key Points
- Tracking Surface Motion: NISAR will provide precise measurements of Earth's surface motion, including glaciers, sea ice, and vegetation, down to fractions of an inch, with a revisit cycle of every 12 days.
- Radar Technology: The satellite will use two radars—L-band developed by NASA and S-band by ISRO—to collect data. These systems allow for measurements both during day and night and can see through clouds and dense vegetation.
