Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023
The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023 was notified on 4th August 2023. The Act amended the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.
Key Provisions
- The amendments introduce a preamble that emphasizes India's commitment to preserving forests, biodiversity, and addressing climate change challenges.
- The name of the Act has been changed to Van (Sanrakshan Evam Samvardhan) Adhiniyam, translated as Forest Conservation and Augmentation, from the existing Forest (Conservation) Act.
- The Act will now only apply to lands notified as 'forest' in any government record on or after 1980. If forest land was legally diverted between 1980 and 1996 for ....
