Environmental Pollution
Environmental pollution is defined as unfavourable alteration of our surroundings, wholly as a by-product of man's activities through direct or indirect efforts of changes in the physical, chemical and biological characteristics that harmfully affect human life or any desirable living thing.
Particulate Pollutants
- Major sources of suspended particulate matter (SPM) are industries, vehicles, power plants, construction activities, oil refineries, railway yards, marketplaces, industries, etc.
- Particulate pollutants are matter suspended in the air, such as dust and soot. Their size ranges from 0.001 to 500 micrometres (μm) in diameter. Particles less than 10 μm float and move freely with the air current.
