International Sugar Organisation
- India has been named Chair of the International Sugar Organisation (ISO) for 2024 during the 63rd council meeting in London.
- India holds a 15% share in global sugar consumption and contributes 20% to global sugar production.
- India is the third-largest country in the world in ethanol production, reaching 12% blending in the financial year 2022-23.
- Ethanol production in India has surged from 173 crore litres to over 500 crore litres during this period.
- India maintains consistent and stable domestic sugar retail prices, limiting the increase to just 5% despite a global surge of about 40%.
