​SC Judgment on Temporary Employment in Government Institutions

On 20th December, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC), in a significant judgment, addressed the critical issue of regularization of long-term temporary employees performing essential functions in government institutions.

The Case

  • The case, Jaggo vs. Union of India, involved four appellants who had been engaged by the Central Water Commission (CWC) on part-time, ad-hoc terms for periods ranging from over a decade to nearly two decades.
