Administrative Policies of British (1757-1857)

  • 1765-1772: EIC was under Dual Government which means Rule of Two- EIC and Nawab.
  • 1772 Onwards: EIC came to wield lot of powers and had corrupting influence. Hence, British government started regulating working of EIC. Various Acts to do so are as follows:

  • Governor of Bengal was designated as Governor-General of Bengal and four-member executive council was formed to assist him. He had more powers over Governors of Bombay and Madras.
