Current Scenario of Indian Labour Market
Only half of India’s working age population (15 years and above) is contributing to economic activity with labour force participation rate (LFPR) of 49.8 per cent in 2017-18.
- Dependence on agriculture is around 48-49% of the total workforce while manufacturing and services sector employ about 25% and 31% of the workforce respectively.
- The proportion of women in the labour force has been consistently lower than male workers and as per the recent official estimates female workforce participation is about 27%.
- As per 2011 Census, at least 10.1 million children are still employed by various industries.
