​US Shifts Stance on Ukraine at UN Vote

On 24th February 2025, for the first time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the United States voted alongside Russia at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), opposing a resolution calling for de-escalation, cessation of hostilities, and a peaceful resolution of the war.

  • The resolution, introduced by Ukraine and its European allies, was adopted with 93 votes in favour, including Germany, UK, France, and the G7 (minus the US).
  • 18 countries, including Russia, the US, Israel, and Hungary, voted against, marking a major shift in US foreign policy towards the conflict.
