Novel Technique to Enhance Next-Gen Lighting

On 21st February 2025, the Department of Science & Technology informed that researchers from Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) in Bengaluru have discovered a novel way to make perovskite-based LEDs (PeLEDs) more stable and efficient, overcoming key challenges in next-generation lighting technology.

  • Perovskite is a class of compounds which have the same type of crystal structure as CaTiO3 – Calcium Titanate.

Why It Matters

  • Lighting consumes 20% of global electricity, and advancements in technology can significantly reduce energy consumption.
  • PeLEDs combine the best features of OLEDs (organic light-emitting diode) and QLEDs (Quantum Dot LEDs) but struggle with heat sensitivity, ....
