​Machattu Mamangam Festival

In February 2025, Machattu Mamangam was celebrated at Machattu Thiruvanikavu Temple at Vadakkancherry in Thrissur district (Kerala).

  • This five-day festival is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi.
  • Also known as Thiruvanikkavu Kuthira Vela, Machad Mamangam is one of the few festivals in Kerala celebrated without elephants.
  • The festival starts with a parapurappadu on first Friday of Kumbham according to Malayalam calendar.
  • The highlight of Machattu Mamangam is the Kuthirakolams (grand, life-sized motif horses), which are intricately decorated and taken out in a grand procession on the concluding day.
  • The chendamelam, traditional percussion music, adds to the festive atmosphere.
