​Jhumoir Binandini Dance

On 24th February 2025, the Prime Minister participated in the Jhumoir Binandini 2025, a Mega Jhumoir programme in Guwahati, Assam.

What is Jhumoir Binandini?

  • Also known as Jhumur, it is a traditional folk dance performed by the Adivasi tea tribes of Assam during the harvest season.
  • This dance is particularly known for its graceful movements, elaborate footwork, and the spiritual themes that it portrays.

Attire

  • The dancers wear traditional Assamese attire.
  • The mekhela chador (for women) is a traditional two-piece garment that drapes elegantly around the body, paired with intricate jewellery and accessories like tora (headpiece) and bichuwa (anklet).
