  • NASA has identified asteroid 2024 YR4, which has a slightly over 1% chance of colliding with Earth in 2032, though experts believe it is unlikely to pose a serious threat.
  • The asteroid, discovered in December 2023, is estimated to be between 40 to 100 meters wide—roughly the size of a football field—and made its closest approach to Earth on Christmas Day.
  • Astronomers are using advanced telescopes to track its trajectory before it becomes too faint to detect by mid-April 2025, as it will not be visible again until 2028.
  • If it were to impact Earth, 2024 YR4 could release 8 to 10 megatons ....
