Development of Materials to Destroy Chemical Warfare Agents
- In January 2024, researchers at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal developed a material called UC-POP-Au to break down chemical warfare agents like mustard gas.
- The material absorbs the entire spectrum of light, making it a potent catalyst for chemical processes.
- The research team coated a small piece of cotton cloth with the UC-POP-Au under direct sunlight to detoxify a mustard gas simulant. The material performed better than a regular polymer-based photocatalyst.
- The research team also says the photocatalyst UC-POP-Au can be used to create personal protective equipment. It has potential applications in ....
