Global Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence
The World Health Organization (WHO) and Germany established a new global hub for pandemic and epidemic intelligence as part of WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme on 1st September 2021.
About WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme
- The programme was established in 2016 by WHO to deal with emergency health needs related to disease outbreaks, disasters and conflicts by coordinating assistance, delivering medicines supplies and vaccines etc.
Significance of the Move
- The hub establishes a common network with access to critical multi-sectoral data, enabling data analytics advances to anticipate, prevent, detect, prepare for, and respond to global health hazards.
