The first super moon of 2021 has been named ‘Pink Moon’ as per a naming convention established in USA.
About Supermoon
- Astrologer Richard Nolle created the phrase "supermoon" in 1979.
- The Moon orbits Earth in an elliptical orbit, bringing it closer and farther away as it rotates.
- The apogee is the farthest point in this ellipse, while the perigee is the closest point.
- A supermoon is a new or full Moon that occurs when the moon is at the perigee (the point where moon is closest in its elliptical orbit around the Earth).
