Tsunami Ready Village
- On 7th August, 2020, two coastal villages of Odisha- Venkatraipur village in Ganjam district and Noliasahi village in Jagatsingpur district were declared “Tsunami Ready” by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (UNESCO-IOC) for their overall preparedness to face the calamity.
- With this recognition, India became the first country to implement the Tsunami programme in the Indian Ocean Region.
- Also, Odisha became the first Indian state to do so and now is it is expected to become a role model for Tsunami preparedness in India.
Criteria for Recognition
- Community tsunami risk reduction plan
- Designated and mapped tsunami hazard zones
- Public display of tsunami information
- Easily understood ....
