Mount Sinabung volcano, one of two currently erupting in Indonesia, was dormant for four centuries before exploding in 2010 and in 2014. Recently, this volcano exploded and belched a massive column of ash and smoke 5,000 metres (16,400 feet) into the air plunging local communities into darkness with a thick layer of debris. Mount Sinabung is one of more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic activity on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a ring of volcanoes and moving fault lines that surround the ocean.
