Hate Speech

Recently, in hate speech by a Bishop belonging to the Syro-Malabar Church in Kerala coined the term ‘narcotic jihad’. The speech was aimed at a particular religion has a divisive tone.

Hate Speech in India

  • Hate speech refers to words whose intent is to create hatred towards a particular group, that group may be a community, religion or race. This speech may or may not have meaning, but is likely to result in violence.
  • Hate speech has not been defined in any law in India.
  • There is no clear definition of what constitutes a “hate speech” in the Indian Penal Code ....
