INST Designs Computer-based Nanomaterials
A team of scientists from the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali (Punjab), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has developed computer-based designs of nanomaterials with super-high piezoelectricity (generation of electricity in certain materials upon application of pressure) which can pave the way for development of futuristic nanoelectronics for applications like ultrathin, next-generation nanotransistors.
- Piezoelectricity in 2D materials was first predicted in 2012 and later confirmed experimentally in monolayer in 2014.
- But most of the 2D materials mainly show in-plane piezoelectricity. For device-based applications, out-of-plane piezoelectricity is very much essential.
- The researchers in the current study ....
