Bhutan Takes a Positive Move on BBIN
- The Bhutan government has decided to send a bill for the ratification of the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) initiative to its upper senate.
- The BBIN Motor Vehicle Agreement (MVA) was signed by the four countries in 2015 but Bhutan moved out of the MVA in 2017 temporarily. Bhutan feared that the implementation of MVA would lead to an influx of vehicles from other countries impacting its own transporters and causing degradation of its environment.
- Bangladesh, India and Nepal have already ratified and implemented the agreement but Bhutan is yet to ratify it.
