IIT-Guwahati’s Trojan Peptides to Treat Alzheimer’s Disease
Taking a clue from the mythological ‘Trojan Horse’ which was used as subterfuge by the Greeks in the battle of Troy, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-G) have devised new method for treating Alzheimer’s disease.
Trojan Peptides
- The study, which lasted five years, aimed at understanding the neuro-chemical principles of Alzheimer’s disease and ways of arresting it.
- The accumulation of amyloid-beta peptides in the brain is the principal cause of Alzheimer’s disease. The aggregation of these toxic neurodegenerative molecules in the form of plaques deforms the cortex of the brain and results in short-term memory loss.
