Indo Gangetic Plain a Global Hotspot of Atmospheric Ammonia
According to the study titled "Record high levels of atmospheric ammonia over India: Spatial and temporal analyses" by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) is the global hot-spot of atmospheric ammonia (NH3) due to intense agricultural activities and fertilizer production in the region.
Key Findings
- The study analysed the seasonal and inter-annual variability of atmospheric ammonia emitted by the agricultural sector for the period 2008-2016 and found that the Indo-Gangetic Plain is indeed the global hot-spot of atmospheric ammonia.
- There is a positive correlation of atmospheric ammonia with total fertilizer consumption and temperature ....
