Draft National Deep Tech Startup Policy (NDTSP) Released for Public Consultation

On 31st July, 2023, the National Deep Tech Startup Policy (NDTSP) Consortium announced the release of the draft policy for public consultation, seeking feedback until September 15, 2023.

- National Consortium and Working Group Recommendation: The Prime Minister's Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC) recommended the establishment of a National Consortium and a Working Group to formulate a comprehensive policy framework for the Indian deep tech startup ecosystem.
- Broad Spectrum of Stakeholders: The apex-level National Consortium comprises representatives from various departments and organizations, including DPIIT, AIM, NITI Aayog, MeitY, DBT, ISRO, NSCS, DRDO, NASSCOM, CII, and FICCI.
- Policy Formulation Process: Inputs from startups, incubation centers, industry associations, academic institutions, and government agencies were sought through consultative workshops, roundtables, discussions, and interviews with thought leaders.
- Themes of the Draft NDTSP: The draft policy focuses on themes such as nurturing research, development & innovation, strengthening the intellectual property regime, facilitating access to funding, enabling shared infrastructure and resource sharing, creating conducive regulations, standards, and certifications, attracting human resources & initiating capacity building, promoting procurement & adoption, and ensuring policy & program interlinkages, all aimed at sustaining deep tech startups.
- Public Consultation Period: The revised policy draft is open for public feedback from July 31, 2023, until September 15, 2023.
