Centre Increases Salaries, Allowances, & Pensions for MPs

On 24th March 2025, as per a gazette notification by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the government revised the salaries, allowances, and pensions of Members of Parliament (MPs), effective April 1, 2023.
Key Points
- Salary Hike: MPs' monthly salary increased from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.24 lakh.
- Daily Allowance: Raised from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 2,500.
- Pension Increase: Former MPs’ pension increased from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 31,000 per month.
- Additional Pension: Extra pension per year of service beyond five years increased from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 2,500.
- Previous Revision: Last revised in April 2018 to adjust for inflation and rising living costs.
- Other Benefits: MPs receive constituency, office and travel allowances, free flights, train travel, rent-free housing, and utility benefits.
