India Reaffirms Goal of Malaria-Free Nation

On 25th April 2025, on World Malaria Day 2025, the Indian government reiterated its commitment to eliminate malaria by 2030, highlighting recent progress and urging collective public action.
- World Malaria Day, observed every year on April 25, aims to raise awareness and mobilise action against the deadly yet preventable disease.
- The theme for 2025— “Malaria Ends with Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite”—focuses on energising action at all levels, from policy to community participation.
- India aims to eliminate malaria by 2030, with an ambitious milestone of achieving zero indigenous cases by the year 2027.
- According to the WHO’s World Malaria Report 2024, India has achieved a 69% decline in malaria cases and a 68% reduction in deaths between 2017 and 2023.
- India contributed just 0.8% of global malaria cases in 2023 and has exited the WHO’s High Burden to High Impact (HBHI) list as of 2024.
