On 7th April 2025, on the occasion of World Health Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and launched a nationwide campaign to combat India’s growing obesity crisis.

  • The Prime Minister urged citizens to make small lifestyle changes, including reducing cooking oil usage by 10% as a collective step toward healthier living.
  • He encouraged people to incorporate regular physical activity into their daily routines, stating that fitness is a personal and national responsibility.
  • Citing alarming WHO data, he highlighted that one in eight Indians is obese, with childhood obesity having quadrupled in recent years.
  • To amplify the campaign, he invited ten influential public figures — including athletes, actors, and philanthropists — to raise awareness and nominate others to join the movement.
  • The Prime Minister affirmed that his government will continue investing in healthcare infrastructure and promote wellness as a pillar of a “Viksit Bharat.”
