PM Modi to Receive Mauritius’ Highest Honour

On 11th March 2025, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam announced to confer PM Narendra Modi, the country’s highest national honour, making him the first Indian leader to be honoured with this prestigious award.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be awarded The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, the highest national honour of Mauritius, in recognition of his contributions to bilateral relations.
  • The recognition marks PM Modi’s 21st international award from a foreign country, highlighting his global diplomatic influence and contributions to international cooperation.
  • Since Mauritius became a Republic, only five foreign dignitaries have received this prestigious title, including Nelson Mandela, who was awarded it in 1998, signifying the rarity of this honour.
